The cotter pins are the ones that lock the spring tension securely while taking down the rv awning.
Rv awning spring tension.
1 lower the awning so the roller tube is as close to the ground as possible.
Position so the pole pushes the awning out adding tension to the fabric.
This is where your helper comes in handy.
Now that you are going to re tension the spring it s time to insert it back after you have reinstalled the torsion assembly.
When you release the tension in the spring the cotter pin that is inserted in the holes in the awning arms are removed.
Push the aluminum pole in its extended length up to the rv wall and down to the lip of the awning under the awning itself.
Received the new spring today.

Special aluminum poles often accompany the rv awning for this use.
Go to the back awning leg and raise the upper section quite a bit.
Without the support arm in place the leg will want to fall down.
I have an older carefree awning that is 182 long.
The tension arms are what you adjust to make the awning taut after it has been lowered.
Now detach the front awning leg from the side of the rv and stand it up.
2 the support arm consists of an outer and inner section.
The process is fairly simple but having someone to assist you in making the adjustments makes it easier.
We are saddened to announce the passing of the rv doctor april 17 2020.
